Ontario is expanding its electricity rebate program to help more families with their electricity bills. The Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP) now offers rebates to households with incomes up to $71,000, an increase from the previous cap of $52,000. This expansion is expected to include about 100,000 more families.

The OESP provides credits ranging from $35 to $75 on electricity bills, with higher credits available for certain groups like Indigenous households and those who rely on electric heating or medical devices. There is no deadline to apply, and the program is expected to benefit over 300,000 households in total.

This expansion is part of the province’s efforts to make electricity more affordable for residents. In October, Ontario also increased the Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER) from 11.7% to 19.3%, which is estimated to save the average household $26 per month.
