Calgary businessman Landon Johnston is frustrated with Alberta’s recall legislation during his campaign to remove Mayor Jyoti Gondek from office. He expressed his concerns directly to Premier Danielle Smith on her radio show.

Johnston described the process as stressful and full of loopholes, saying he’s been left without support. He tried contacting Municipal Affairs Minister Ric McIver for guidance but received no response.

Premier Smith acknowledged the high bar for recall petitions and promised to review the legislation. However, she stated that changes can’t be made while a petition is active. Smith invited Johnston to provide input on needed changes once his campaign concludes.
