Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Marrone has died. Brian served as the 18th Prime Minister of Canada from 1984 to 1993. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.

Brian’s daughter Caroline Marroney said in an online message on Thursday (February 29) that he died peacefully with family members present. He was surrounded by family members at that time.

Current Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a post on social media X that he was shocked by the news of the death of the former Prime Minister. He said Brian never stopped working for Canadians. He has always worked on how to make Canada a better, more livable place.

“I will never forget the insights he gave me over the years,” Trudeau said. He was generous, tireless and incredibly enthusiastic.’

In August last year, Caroline revealed on social media that her father had undergone a heart operation. He was also diagnosed with prostate cancer late last year. Brian has been receiving treatment since then.

Brian Marrone became famous for the free trade agreement with the United States. But he damaged his earned reputation for ‘illegal’ dealings with an arms dealer.

Bryan, a corporate lawyer-turned-businessman, led the center-right party to a historic victory over the Progressive Conservatives in 1984. Liberal Pia Trudeau’s party lost to her party that year.
