Where is artificial intelligence taking the world?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most talked about topics in the world today. It has brought about a radical change in the overall dynamics of the world and the way people think. Artificial intelligence has been used by technology companies before, but its use in other sectors has gradually increased. The use of artificial intelligence has also started in Bangladesh by the hands of young entrepreneurs. In addition to its widespread use in the private sector, the state-of-the-art technology is also being used in the government sector. According to the predictions of scientists, the use of artificial intelligence is observed in various important workplaces, including medical services, offices-courts, industries, news agencies or mass media, language translation processes, telephone services, scientific research, hotels-restaurants, and commerce. Those concerned claim that its usefulness is getting good results in many sectors including telecommunications, mobile phone operators, banks, online and agricultural sectors of Bangladesh.

Also, artificial intelligence is playing a role in factories to ensure maximum utilization of machines by reducing wastage and eco-friendly production systems. AI has also started to be used in the agricultural sector. AI is making accurate decisions about the right production practices. Soil quality research tells what type of crops should be cultivated in that soil. AI software is advancing in medical care. It is helping doctors detect cancer through MRI. All such ‘self-learning software’ is being developed using artificial intelligence, which will make significant progress in the medical field. The use of hi-tech technology in medicine to identify specific symptoms of complex diseases is increasing. Magnetic resonance imaging is used to produce detailed images of the internal organs of the body, so that doctors can analyze the images to get an idea of the actual condition. The chance of survival of such a patient has also increased a lot with the help of newly developed artificial intelligence to avoid the big risks of artificially breathing the lung patient.

Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT’s language skills have impressed users. It has made possible tasks such as writing complete novels, codes, serial dramas for television and songs. Scientists estimate that by 2049, robots will be able to write ‘best-selling’ books. Already in Japan, short novels written by intelligent machines have been considered for literary awards. According to Oxford University scientists, within 120 years all human work will be done by intelligent machines. Researchers at Stanford University in the United States claim that they have created an artificial intelligence that can easily predict the death of a person by performing various tests on the body.

London-based consulting firm PwC conducted a survey of 1,000 companies in 2022. According to the survey, one in six and one in four of these companies have used AI in hiring. In addition, AI is used in almost 40 percent of recruitment in many companies. Not just recruitment, AI is keeping track of how an employee is performing after joining the job. US company “Hireview” which works in the recruitment of employees in various multinational companies including Amazon, Unilever, said that the quick recruitment of employees by taking video interviews is quite effective. Thanks to AI technology, it is possible to avoid biased behavior towards certain castes and genders. Sadly, a survey published in the United States last year alleged that robots trained in AI technology discriminated against women and non-whites. In this situation, the United States ‘Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’ has published the principles of using AI technology in the workplace. The European Union is also going to enact two laws on the same issue. According to the European Union, citizens and companies can benefit from using AI, but there is also the danger that fundamental rights are at risk.

Machines that exhibit human-like intelligence in everyday tasks are considered artificial intelligence. Although researchers do not agree on its definition, according to Larry Birnbaum, professor of computer science at Northwestern University in the United States, ‘Artificial intelligence is generally a field of computer science that focuses on creating and training machines to perform intelligent tasks. Artificial Intelligence Machines are autonomous machines capable of reasoning, solving problems, understanding human language, perceiving, learning, planning, changing the position of an object, or interfering with something. This includes high performance computers, robots and other devices. John McCarthy first coined the term artificial intelligence at an academic conference held at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, USA in 1956. That is why he is called the father of artificial intelligence. His other collaborators were Marvin Minsky, Allen Newell and Herbert A. Simon.

The expansion of artificial intelligence in the unimaginable success of technological excellence is also giving birth to an unknown fear in contrast to bringing relief-happiness-comfort to the people of the future world. It has also become a cause of concern for world-renowned scientists. The news of more than 50 countries spending huge sums of money to develop robots and drones that can be used in the battlefield to automatically target and kill the enemy is creating panic in the public mind. According to sources published in the media on June 8, experts around the world have expressed concern about artificial intelligence. They claim that this technology will one day stand against people. Will kill people. Recently, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot ‘Ameca’, created with artificial intelligence, has given a glimpse of the difficult conditions humans will face in the future. At the International Conference of Robotics and Automation Symposium held in London, he surprised everyone by using ‘Open AI’s ChatGPT’ to answer questions from observers. Describing the ‘artificial intelligence scenario’, CEO of its maker, Cornwall-based Engineered Arts, Ameca eloquently says, ‘The scariest scenario I imagine in the world with artificial intelligence and robotics is that robots will become overwhelmingly powerful. They will accumulate so much power that they will be able to control or manipulate mankind without their knowledge. As a result, a crushed society will develop, where individual rights will no longer be respected.

Masaoshi Son, the founder and CEO of Soft Bank, the richest telecom company in Japan, the world’s third largest economy, said about artificial intelligence, “I think, 30 years from now, the number of smart robots in the world will be 10 billion.” These robots will largely take human jobs. All the industries that people have built will be reorganized. Jack Ma, one of the founders of e-commerce, highlighted several risks and opportunities in the world economy at the World Economic Forum conference in Davos, Switzerland. . This technology will also create many successful personalities and stimulating careers; But in reality every new technology also creates social problems. If we can’t stand together, people will fight against each other. Because every technological revolution unbalances the world.

Artificial intelligence is looming as a disaster, according to a statement given by officials from artificial intelligence organizations Open AI, Anthropic and Google at the Center for AI Safety in May this year. The risk of artificial intelligence must be kept a global priority in the future. We are not in any dangerous situation yet. However, it is important to be aware of the major risks and dangers associated with AI and robotics. So now these technologies have to be developed in such a way that any major damage or negative impact can be avoided in the future. The famous scientist of the 21st century, Stephen Hawking, said about artificial intelligence, ‘They will one day surpass us. This could lead to the extinction of mankind. The development of artificial intelligence will reach such a level that it will be able to improve itself automatically without the help of humans. And if that happens, our intelligence will experience an explosion; As a result, mechanical intelligence will surpass us.

Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, the US spacecraft manufacturer and space travel service provider, called the development of artificial intelligence “summoning a monster” and calling it the most dangerous threat to mankind and more dangerous than nuclear bombs. He urged the national and international community to regulate the development of artificial intelligence. In an interview with the US newspaper The Washington Post, the chief executive of Google, one of the leading companies in artificial intelligence research, expressed his fear of its disaster, saying, “IT companies should follow certain policies to prevent the abuse of artificial intelligence.” And how technology can be misused, should be thought in advance. It is not only necessary to invent and develop new technology, we must also be careful that the use of that technology does not go against humanity.

In fact, any attempt to create barriers to human resource development, detrimental to the entire human society, must be overcome. The application of technology is expected, but its misuse and any unexpected actions that are destructive to future human beings are inevitable. If the world’s attention is not properly attracted to the development of artificial intelligence, there is a danger of humanity falling into the black hole of destruction.
