Canada’s Immigration Minister Mark Miller said on Thursday that this initiative is being taken mainly to eliminate the housing crisis and increase other essential citizen services.

Various countries in the Western world have moved towards reducing immigration. Now the name of Canada has been added to that list.

Canada has already announced that it will soon start reducing the number of temporary residents in the country.

Canada’s Immigration Minister Mark Miller said on Thursday that this initiative is being taken mainly to eliminate the housing crisis and increase other essential citizen services.

In mid-January of this year, Mark Miller said that the country is considering reducing foreign students due to the housing crisis.

According to the report of the news agency Reuters, the number of foreign students in Canada has increased at a large rate recently. At the same time, the number of foreign workers also increased, which in turn increased the number of temporary residents of the country.

Basically, a large part of these temporary residents have entered the country on a single-entry visa. That’s because over the past few years, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has relied on foreigners to fill labor shortages and stimulate the economy.

However, recently the Canadian government has faced political pressure from the opposition regarding the country’s immigration policy. Many people against the government complain that the housing crisis has arisen because of foreigners.

Various emergency services including education, health care are being disrupted due to foreigners. And so the Canadian government will reduce the number of foreigners currently living in Canada on a temporary basis by 6.5 percent per year within the next three years, said Minister Mark Miller.

He said that Canada currently has 2.5 million temporary residents. Canada is also considering reducing foreign students due to the housing crisis.

Miller will meet with immigration ministers in various Canadian provinces to finalize the matter next May.

“We need to ensure that the number of temporary residents entering Canada is at an acceptable level,” he said.

Referring to Canada’s federal government’s next immigration plan, Miller said, “This is the first time we’ve started the process of reducing this (temporary resident).

Even those who want to come to Canada permanently or temporarily, we will try to reduce the matter at that stage.
