Greatness lies in attitude!

Greatness lies in attitude!

Have you ever noticed that those who earn as much as you or even more rarely come forward to help you in times of financial distress? When you were in need, the ones who genuinely supported you, who sincerely tried to rescue you from hardship, were often those with lower financial or social status than you. Accept this as the blessing (barakah) in their lives and earnings. Having wealth alone is not enough; one must also have a generous heart. Unfortunately, many lack that generosity.

Those who are on the same level as you—or even ahead of you—may not trust you or place their faith in you. But the person you once considered small, whom you might have looked down upon, is the one who stood by your side in your difficult times. They saw your troubles as their own and came to your aid. I am speaking about the majority of cases—exceptions exist, of course. Perhaps I am simply unaware of those exceptions, which is my limitation.

Never forget the debt of those who extended a helping hand in your time of need. They could have easily refused, yet they chose to support you wholeheartedly. Let gratitude never be overshadowed by pride. If someone has helped you, even in the smallest way, never turn your back on them for the rest of your life. Remember, you can repay a debt, but no one has the power to fully repay the kindness they have received. If someone has eased your worries, saved you from disgrace, and protected your honor, failing to remain humble in their presence would be an unforgivable offense. Gratitude reveals the inner beauty of a person.

Help others as much as you can. Guiding someone with good advice, showing them the right path—these acts stem from a noble mindset. Not everyone has the generosity to help financially. If a distressed person leaves your door empty-handed, and one day your own fortune takes a turn for the worse, will you not regret it? The world is ever-changing! If arrogance fills your heart when you are in a position of giving today, who guarantees that you will never find yourself in need tomorrow? The rich become poor, and the poor rise to power.

In this society, you may not receive as much respect from the powerful as you do from those beneath you. So, value those who are “small” in status. See them as human beings. A high-paying job, a prestigious chair, or a position of authority does not make someone truly great. In some cases, even a servant can surpass their master in greatness. Do not let arrogance blind you today, for no one knows whether tomorrow will be in your favor or against you. Stay humble and be kind to others. Your good deeds and loyalty will bring you rewards. Surely, those who do good will never be deprived of the mercy of the Most Gracious. May your worldly life and your hereafter be filled with ease—just don’t stop striving.
