Canada joins allies in further sanctioning Russia for Ukraine invasion

Canada, alongside the United States and the United Kingdom, has announced new sanctions targeting Russia in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine. This move comes as the invasion approaches its second anniversary, with devastating consequences for Ukrainian civilians.

The new sanctions, encompassing 10 individuals and 153 entities, aim to cripple Russia’s ability to wage war. This includes targeting a close associate of President Putin and businesses supporting vital sectors like railways, construction, and technology. Additionally, Canada is expanding its export ban to encompass explosives and detonators used in mining and construction, further hindering Russia’s war effort.

These sanctions join earlier measures implemented by Canada and its allies, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to pressuring Russia and holding them accountable for the war in Ukraine.
