I have never wished to be a good person like someone else. But I have regretted a thousand times, saying, “I don’t have as much money as them.” Have I ever thought, “What if I could acquire knowledge like them?” I have always wished for power like theirs so that I could prove myself! People desire and strive for negative traits, but there is no such longing or effort to attain positive qualities. Throughout life, people lament over wealth and power, but they do not put the same effort into developing good character or becoming truly humane. What kind of beings are humans? Unfamiliar. They speak of goodness but do not embody it in their actions.
Are there more good people in society or bad ones? I do not know the exact number. No one has ever conducted a survey on this. However, the presence and proliferation of dishonest individuals seem to be higher. At present, the silence of good people is even greater. Most people want to amass immense wealth without considering its source or consequences. They are preoccupied with deceiving others and keeping them suppressed. How many people consciously strive to change their own flaws and embrace goodness? Crimes of all kinds are spreading in society. If a person lacks morality, truth, and religious consciousness, they cease to be human; they devolve into beasts. What do we see in newspapers and the news?
Sickness and negative thoughts have infiltrated the human mind so deeply that lying has become routine. Interest and bribery have become an integral part of daily life. Corruption has taken root in people’s hearts and thoughts. People desire wealth by any means necessary. Nowadays, it seems people no longer want to remain human. Lying, engaging in dishonest practices, looting, adulterating food, and harming others have become commonplace—almost as if humans are competing with evil itself. Instead of seeking happiness, people are now in search of misery. They invest resources in harming others. They find satisfaction in creating enmity among people. They indulge in quarrels and violence.
People now think more about harming others than about their own well-being. Their life philosophy is: “If I lose one eye, let everyone else go blind.” Such a mentality is turning people into inhumane beings every day. Amassing wealth by any means, suppressing others at all costs, and seizing others’ rights—people no longer even perceive these as crimes. They accept bribes with ease, give false testimony without hesitation, and crush the weak without remorse. The corrupt are united in their interests. They have created an arena of selfishness to destroy civilization, loot the nation, and poison society. Exploitation and oppression are the pledges of the strong. Silence and submission are the constitution of the weak.
Let us embark on a journey toward goodness. Wealth is undeniably important in life, but not as crucial as being a good human being. We must first become noble individuals; everything else follows. Every word and action must be guided by moral standards. Every step must adhere to ethical and religious principles. There is no success in remaining ignorant. We must seek and share the truth. We must become a part of everything that is beneficial. Every good person is like a lighthouse. The number of such lighthouses in society is alarmingly decreasing. The initiative to spread light in society must begin with ourselves. After all, I alone am responsible for my actions. If I cultivate all that is beautiful within myself, life will be filled with sweetness, and bees will come to collect that nectar. The cycle of goodness does not end with the bees; by consuming this nectar of virtue, an entire nation can elevate itself.
