An Indigo Air flight took off from Kolkata to Bangalore with more than 200 passengers on board. But one of the aircraft’s engines broke down mid-air. At this time panic spread among the passengers. The pilot was forced to make an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport.
NDTV reports that the plane’s engine malfunctioned within hours of leaving the runway. At one point it stopped. Earlier on Monday too, IndiGo’s Madurai-Mumbai flight suffered a first engine malfunction.
A state of emergency was declared at the airport at 2:50 pm for an emergency landing after permission from the control room, the DGCA said in a statement. The aircraft landed in Kolkata at 2:58 PM with 222 passengers on board with the help of one engine operated by the pilot.
As the plane’s fault could not be repaired immediately, they were sent to their destination on another plane in the evening. In a statement, IndiGo said the technical glitch occurred before landing in Mumbai.
