The crisis of religious harmony is fundamentally linked to communal conflict
Taslima Jamal

Religious harmony is at the core of a society’s peace, tolerance and human values. It creates an environment of mutual respect and harmony among people of different religions. However, religious harmony is facing repeated challenges in the present times. We need to understand the root causes of communal conflict, which has become a cause of instability and disintegration in society. At the root of this problem are political influence, economic inequality and social ignorance. This conflict is not just a matter of religious differences, it is a complex structure where inequality and division work at different levels of society.
Political influence plays the biggest role in destroying religious harmony. Creating an environment of division by using religious sentiments is an ancient strategy. When religion is used as a tool in politics, it creates division among people and increases communal tension. Some vested interests try to maintain their political power by exploiting religious identity. As a result, the root of religious harmony is damaged and instability spreads in society. Especially in times of crisis, the provocative actions of political leaders quickly affect the entire society.
Economic inequality is also a major cause of communal conflict. Minority communities in society are often economically and socially backward. They are further marginalized by being deprived of basic rights like education, employment, and healthcare. This inequality creates frustration among them, which increases communal tension. In addition, powerful groups exploit this inequality to increase tension for their own interests.
Social ignorance and misconceptions are a major threat to religious harmony. People often do not have sufficient knowledge about other religions or communities. As a result, misinformation or rumors can easily influence people. In this era of social media, fake news or misleading information spreads quickly, which increases communal tensions. Many times, vested interests exploit this situation to incite conflict. Due to lack of education and social awareness, people believe these misleading propaganda without checking and react immediately. As a result, even small incidents can turn into major conflicts. To avoid such situations, misconceptions must be removed through education and awareness and strict action must be taken against the spread of rumors.
Proper education and social awareness are essential for establishing religious harmony. It is possible to develop an attitude of tolerance and respect towards different religions through education. A framework should be developed in the education system where the values and culture of people of all religions are presented positively. It is important to highlight the positive aspects of religious diversity in textbooks and take special initiatives to build mutual respect among students. Organizing inter-religious discussions and workshops can be one of the main roles of educational institutions and social organizations. These initiatives will help create not only religious harmony, but also a harmonious environment in the entire society.
The neutral role of the government and law enforcement agencies is very important in preventing communal conflicts. An effective and strong law enforcement system is necessary to prevent communal tensions. A speedy justice system and strict legal action can help reduce violence. Impartial investigations and speedy punishment of the guilty must be ensured. In addition, the government should adopt effective policies for the development of minority communities, which will bring them out of their marginalized position and increase their participation in society.
The crisis of religious harmony is not just a specific community, but it is a major threat to the stability, peace and progress of the entire society. To eliminate communal conflicts, a culture of mutual respect, dialogue and cooperation must be developed in society. There should be no division in the name of religion, but rather the main message of religion, humanity and peace, should be spread. It is the responsibility of every citizen to create an environment of brotherhood and tolerance. By working together and on the basis of solidarity, we can face this crisis. It is possible to build a peaceful, tolerant and developed society by establishing religious harmony.
