More than 1 crore 63 lakh Bangladeshis are working in 176 countries

Workers have been sent from Bangladesh to 176 countries of the world so far.

State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said that from 1976 to March 2024, 1 crore 63 lakh 12 thousand 324 Bangladeshis have gone abroad for employment. Workers have been sent from Bangladesh to 176 countries of the world so far.

He said this in response to various questions during the question and answer session of the National Parliament session on Wednesday.

The State Minister for Expatriate Welfare said that the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment does not have any information about how many Bangladeshi citizens without passports are illegally in different countries.

In response to the question of independent member of parliament Abdullah Nahid Nigar, he said that the foreign labor market has been able to turn around after the corona as a result of the government’s actions. The number of workers sent abroad in the financial year 2022-23 is 11 lakh 26 thousand 60 people.

Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury, in response to the question of Independent Member of Parliament Muhammad Saiful Islam, said that from 2009-10 financial year to 2022-23 financial year, 1 lakh 27 thousand 557 workers went abroad at low/free cost through Bocell.
