Maldives President Mooijju faces impeachment

This time, the opposition has faced the impeachment process of the President of Maldives, Mohammad Muijju. The country’s main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is set to initiate impeachment proceedings against him.

The MDP has already started collecting signatures of parliamentarians to impeach the Muizzur government.

Muijju has come under fire from the opposition for allowing the Chinese spy ship to anchor in Male. After the start of the impeachment process in the parliament on Sunday, two sides got involved in a massive fight in the parliament.

The two opposition parties ‘Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) and ‘The Democrat’ have 55 members in the 80-member parliament.

Soon after Muijju came to power, he announced the return of 88 Indian soldiers stationed in the Maldives. Since then the pro-Indians have taken a stand against him.
