Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the case of leaking state secret documents.

Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the case of leaking state secret documents. He is currently in jail after being convicted in another corruption case.

Earlier in 2022, Imran Khan was forced to leave power after losing the no-confidence vote in the parliament. Since then one case after another has been filed against him. Meanwhile, a Pakistani court convicted him last year in the Tosakhana case and sentenced him to three years in prison.

Popular cricket star-turned-politician Imran has denied all allegations leveled against him. He said that all the cases against him are politically motivated.

Pakistan will go to the polls for the national elections on February 8. Imran is unable to participate in this election due to his imprisonment despite being widely popular among the Pakistani general public. However, his party leaders submitted his nomination papers on Imran’s behalf. But according to the constitution of Pakistan, a convicted person cannot hold any public office. The Election Commission of Pakistan canceled the nomination papers of Imran Khan on this pretext.

Along with Imran, his foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in the same case. In these incidents, many political intellectuals have begun to see the end of the political career of the 71-year-old former prime minister.
