There is a significant shift in overseas travel among students in the country in the wake of growing concerns over visa complications for students visiting Canada and possible restrictions on the number of Indian students. Such a situation has led many to prefer Australia, the UK and the US as alternatives.
There are many reasons behind this change, including not only bureaucratic hurdles, but also concerns over the security and uncertainty of the future of Indian students in Canada.
Immigration consultant Ruban Kohli said amid Canada-India diplomatic tensions, parents are choosing Australia and other countries for their children’s higher education over Canada. Diplomatic tensions between the two countries have impacted Canada as a higher education destination.
Manpreet Kaur, another immigration consultant, said bureaucratic delays, diplomatic tensions and domestic challenges seem to be driving Indian students away from the Maple Leaf.
In addition to visa issues, students currently studying in Canada are also struggling with economic pressures due to housing issues and high inflation.
As a result, Australian universities are becoming increasingly popular with Indian students for their academic excellence and diverse student community. The UK and the US are emerging as attractive alternatives to Indians for their well-established education systems and policies.
