More than half of the troops deployed by India in the Maldives have been withdrawn. The Maldives was given a deadline to withdraw half of its troops by Friday. But before that, more than half of the army has left the Maldives, the country’s authorities said.

Last year, Mohamed Muizzu won an unprecedented victory in the country’s presidential election by campaigning against India. After coming to power, Muijju sent a message to New Delhi to withdraw 89 Indian troops stationed in Maldives. 51 Indian soldiers left Maldives last Monday. All Indian troops in the country will leave by May 10.

Last month, Muizzu’s party did well in the parliamentary elections in the Maldives.
