Cylinder explosion in Gazipur: death toll rises to 13

On March 13, 36 people were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion at the house of Shafiqul Islam Khan in Telirchala area of Kaliakor, Gazipur.

Another person named Mashiur Rahman (22) died of burns in the gas cylinder fire in Konabari area of Kaliakor, Gazipur. Due to this, the death toll in this incident has increased to 13 people.

He died at around 11 pm on Tuesday (19 March) while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

This has been confirmed by Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute resident surgeon Dr. Tariqul Islam

He said, 60 percent of Moshiur Rahman’s body was burnt. He was under treatment in ICU. Then he died on Tuesday night.

Eyewitnesses said that Shafiq Khan’s house in Mouchak Telir Chala area has been rented to the workers of some local factories. The workers were cooking in the kitchen of that house. Just before Iftar, a family’s cylinder runs out of gas around 6:30 in the evening. While connecting another new cylinder it caught fire. Later, 36 people were burnt one by one.
