Canadian globetrotters rejoice! Your passport remains a powerful travel companion, ranking seventh globally on the 2024 Passport Index and granting visa-free entry to 124 countries.
This ranking, while unchanged from last year, reflects a gradual decline from Canada’s peak of fourth place in 2022. Nevertheless, it’s still a far cry from the bottom slots occupied by war-torn nations like Syria and Afghanistan.
The index judges passport strength based on the number of countries a resident can visit without a visa. With access to 124 destinations, Canadians can explore a vast swathe of the world without visa headaches. However, there are still 49 places requiring visas upon arrival and 25 demanding one beforehand.
Compared to the U.S., Canada’s visa-free access is virtually identical (though Americans face slightly fewer pre-departure visa requirements). This highlights the shared freedom both countries enjoy when jet-setting around the globe.
The good news doesn’t stop there. As pandemic restrictions loosen, Statistics Canada reports a surge in Canadian wanderlust. Overseas trips rose by a whopping 56.6% in October 2023, almost reaching pre-pandemic levels.
So, Canadian passport holders, dust off your luggage and start planning your next adventure! With visa-free entry to numerous destinations and a renewed wanderlust in the air, the world is your oyster (or should we say, maple syrup?).
