Some thoughts on recent transgender issues

Taslima Jamal

In Bangladesh today, after almost 25 years, the ‘transgender’ or transformational issue has become a hot issue.

Abhijit Roy, the founder of Muktmana, had deep insight into Bangladesh and global politics, economy, society, state, philosophy, science, religion, humanity, progress. Abhijit Roy was a visionary. As if he could easily guess what was going to happen. About 25 years ago, he said that the world was fast engulfed in a dark shadow called the ‘belief virus’. Mankind is infected with that virus. His book ‘Belief Virus’ is written from that idea.

In Bangladesh today, after almost 25 years, the ‘transgender’ or transformational issue has become a hot issue. On the other hand, poor children studying in madrasas are raped and murdered by teachers in madrasas and orphanages, but people do not care. There is no resistance to social protest. No one really cares about what is happening in the mosques, madrasas, from the intellectuals of our country to the common people, the state. Everyone’s mouth is closed. The state created hundreds of mosques in the country. There are different types of education in madrasa education. He is making a mosque by combining two or four houses in any way he can. Orphanage is being built. And the rural politics of our country, the religious mobs are taking advantage of that. In winter, the whole country trembles from village to village only in waj and mahfil.

In the name of religion, there is no hate-poison against all other religions, from the head of the country’s government, state apparatus, state system, women leader Haram to America, Israel, Jews, Nasara, Hinduism and all other religions. These scholars and mullahs are doing this without interruption. In those festivals, from the children of the rising age of the country to the young and old, everyone went wild. After listening to them, we become brainwashed. Instead of Kabigan, Yatra Pala, Baul Song Asar, Waj Mohafil is today which is spreading hatred poison in the name of entertainment. In the name of religion, all parties of the moral class are taking full advantage. Even 20-30 years ago, common people could enjoy themselves in the villages with Palagan, Yatra, Lalangiti, Circus etc. Now they have no problem. Now the identity is in religion. People identify people who are Muslims and who are Hindus. Why not? If it goes like this, it will happen. But when this country lived as a human being only as a human being. The sense of humanity was strong among the people. That strong feeling was supposed to be more after the liberation war of 1971. Bengali nation is unfortunate nation. We could not maintain the continuity of 71.

If the Bengalis could have maintained the principles of 71 then we would have discussed many other issues of life today. I could openly discuss all types of sex including transgender, homosexuality, heterosexuality, bi-sexual etc. But the rules are left. Going to that discussion and hearing the words and discussions of today’s highly educated degree holders, college and university teachers, it seems as if they have come from another planet. The most terrible thing is that many of those highly educated people have lived in many countries of the developed world including Europe, America.

Today’s country’s renowned writers and intellectuals are clamoring out of a chicken coop and desperately agdum-bagdum on the issue of transgender. They are brainwashing the people of the country through media, newspapers, online and TV talk shows. Seeing this, he bowed his head in shame. Because, they have no knowledge about sex. They don’t want to read Abhijit Roy’s or anyone else’s book on this subject. Their knowledge is stuck in obscurity.

Abhijit Roy and people like him are greatly needed today. Abhijit’s writing was very necessary to teach the educated people of Bangladesh with such ugly primitive attitude. Hopefully, someone is writing or speaking. Their number is very less. They speak and write at the risk of their lives. May those noble souls win.

Abhijit Roy was killed in cold blood by pre-planned domestic and international militant terrorist groups at the book fair in February. Here, the biggest and liveliest book fair of our country will start soon. Abhijit went to the country to participate in this fair, he wanted to distribute his book to his dear friends at the fair. Did he know that was his last journey? Abhijit Roy wrote his gay book about 25 years ago. The impact of that book had a strong impact on the politics of Bangladesh and Bengali culture.

By killing and stopping Abhijit, Bangladesh today got educated doctorate-holders with ugly attitude, teachers of darkness, greedy and selfish fundamentalist rulers-exploiting opportunists. May they be blessed.

Even after all these years, there is a discussion about various types of sexual characteristics. This discussion is important. In order to stand up for human rights, it is absolutely necessary to consider transgender people as human beings and to educate them on this matter.
