A Lesson in Living

Arafat Rahman

True betrayal isn’t about someone leaving. It’s about those who stay and pretend.

Someone left you? Or chose to walk away? Don’t call it betrayal. Call it a lesson. They taught you how to live. How to read people before letting them in. They gave you the strength to keep moving forward. Slipping doesn’t mean you’re lost—it means it’s time to rise, and learn to live again.

True betrayal isn’t about someone leaving. It’s about those who stay and pretend. The ones who act, who hide their deception behind smiles and warm words. The ones you trust with everything—your secrets, your heart, your soul. When they deceive you, where do you go for healing?

Those who stay like a shadow but invite the sun’s burn—who give you sorrow in the middle of moonlit nights, who quietly pile up resentment—if you trust them blindly, you’ll find yourself crying in the middle of the night, alone.

The one you relied on to walk miles with, the one you opened up to—if they betray that trust, that’s what real betrayal is. If a person becomes the reason for your tears, no depth of night can fully hide that pain. Even when they’re near, if their heart’s with someone else, that silent breaking of trust leaves a sorrow that clings.

And still—we must live. From every wound, we must take life’s lessons. Some will offer you hope. Others will bring you pain. And yet, you must clear the path of thorns and string together a garland of peace. You must learn who is a friend and who is not. Who brings light, and who dims your flame. Stay far from those who make life heavier. An enemy in the open is easier to face—but the hidden ones cut deep.

Life is a collection of everything. A constant lesson in understanding people. The games of the heart are far more complex than the ones on the field. Who’s your friend, and who’s your foe—it’s all revealed through action and trust. You’ll have to forgive many, many times. But those who repeat their wrongs do not deserve your forgiveness.

If you wish to avoid sorrow, stay ten steps away from those who betray.

Thank those who left. They taught you something valuable. And thank those who stayed. They helped you face your solitude. Storms today only mean calmer skies tomorrow. Extremes—whether joy or grief—never last. People don’t live long for your sake. But in the time they do, they leave behind a mark.

So live with grace, in pain and in peace—like we do here in the Great White North. With open hearts, kind thoughts, and quiet resilience.
