Five people were killed when a bus carrying passengers fell off a flyover in Odisha, India.

Five people were killed when a bus carrying passengers fell off a flyover in Odisha, India. More than 30 people were injured in the accident. Among the dead are four men and one woman.

The bus fell from the Barbati Bridge at around 9pm local time on Monday (April 15). There were 40 passengers in the Kolkata-bound bus at that time.

Indian media reported that the driver of the bus lost control while climbing a flyover on National Highway-16 near Baravati in Jajpur district. The bus fell down from the flyover. Later, the locals informed the police and the rescue operation started. Doctors and local authorities joined.

The injured were sent to the local Dharamshala Hospital in 10 ambulances. The seriously injured have been sent to SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over the accident. He announced compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the families of the deceased.
