US State Department spokesperson Miller said, We believe that free and fair elections should be held in all countries of the world, including Bangladesh.

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said the visa ban would apply to anyone who undermines Bangladesh’s democratic election process.

He said this to reporters during the regular media briefing on Tuesday.

Actions that undermine the democratic election process include vote rigging, voter intimidation, the use of violence to prevent people from exercising their right to freedom of association and peaceful assembly, and the use of measures designed to prevent political parties, voters, civil society or the media from airing their views, Miller said.

In response to another question, he said that they do not take a stand for any political party of Bangladesh or any other country.
