The Emotional Reflection of an Ummah Lost in Self-Forgetfulness

Patrick D Costa

Perhaps the Muslim world will never realize that they have a glorious history and tradition.

How cheap are the emotions of Muslims! How easily are they satisfied! Israel’s 2,500 hectares of forest have been burned, and yet, in Bangladesh, people are enthusiastically saying “SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah.” The image of this fire is being shared on Facebook with messages of divine justice. But what is the value of a Palestinian child’s life? It seems that Muslims, in their calculation of loss, are comparing the burnt trees of Israel to the martyred bodies of Gaza and Rafah.

Perhaps the Muslim world will never realize that they have a glorious history and tradition. They have a future filled with hope. Yet, I see deep self-forgetfulness reflected in their actions. When an earthquake strikes in enemy lands, they chant “Alhamdulillah.” When there is a fire, they say “SubhanAllah.” But they won’t take action to improve themselves in knowledge and technology. They hold banners with pictures of martyrs and victims, they march, they burn effigies, and give slogans. But does this truly earn Allah’s pleasure?

Selling swords to buy prayer beads and telling stories of Uhud and Badr to a people whose prime objective is to survive — they’ll never understand the true pain of the Palestinians. They might boycott Coca-Cola, but will they bring change? They loot butter showrooms and sell stolen shoes online. The world of Muslims is divided across 25 ideologies, but they lack unity. Their followers are many, yet there is no harmony.

They have groups, they have followers, but they lack unity. When the leaders themselves are enemies, how can their blind followers be friends? In terms of scientific advancement and innovation, the Muslim world is largely absent. The nation that once bickered over the division of cow meat now has sold its future for a pittance. Their ancestors’ honor has been plundered. They rally their followers, creating chaos to win trivial legal battles.

Kashmir leads to Palestine. The background is already being painted by Indian media and BJP supporters. Modi and Netanyahu’s alliances are growing stronger. Meanwhile, the rulers of Saudi Arabia are busy securing their own monarchy. There is a country called Pakistan, but its citizens are largely ignorant. As for Bangladesh, those fighting for their own selfish interests are not stopping until they destroy the country.

In a world where there are wars, territorial disputes over air and sea, and nations striving to conquer space — there is no room for complacency. Those who are divided, who engage in internal strife, will never be spared by their enemies. Not a single one will escape. The home of the Muslim world will gradually shrink, until it is contained in Makkah and Madinah.

As time moves forward, the clash between Islam and the world will intensify. Muslims’ enemies will be both within and beyond their borders. The differences in beliefs and paths will eventually lead to the extinction of Islam’s banner from the world. Palestine, Yemen, Syria — whose bullets are killing whom? Who is fighting whom? For over a century, Kashmir’s blood has painted the world’s landscape — where are the humanitarians?

Religious boundaries cannot transcend the limits of human compassion. Those who speak out for the protection of minorities abroad are blind to the injustice and bloodshed happening in their own countries. Mosques are being demolished, land is being seized, and governments are supporting these actions. If a nation cannot protect itself, no one else will come to its aid.

In this world, everything is under Allah’s gaze, and He alone will judge. But relying solely on this without putting in the effort is misguided. It’s not enough to sit idle and wait for Allah’s intervention. In an era when swords were needed more than prayer beads, the heroes of that time acted accordingly. Today, to engage in warfare, we need to ensure the protection of our skies, the control of our seas, and the strength of our armies. We cannot face the enemy with nothing more than a stick made of dates and expect them to listen to our words of wisdom. We can deceive people with fabricated stories, but we cannot defeat an enemy in battle.

The Muslim world must become a nuclear power. We need to develop advanced aerospace technologies. We need modern security measures to travel and defend ourselves. In short, we must excel in military science. The time for discussions on grammar and ancient texts is over. The time to defend our faith is now.

It’s time to expand the field of tabligh (spreading the message of Islam) into the battlefield of protecting our honor. We must become the true Mujahideen. Using magical practices to confront the enemy is not enough. We need to spread our influence, attract others with our ideals, and excel in modern science and technology. We must regain our lost glory. With 200 million Muslims, we are not a small number. But if we remain lost in worldly pleasures, enslaved by wealth and power, we will soon face the wrath of hell. The signs of this have already manifested. Otherwise, the entire Arab world wouldn’t be repeatedly humiliated by Israel.
