The dark shadow of division in the harmonious Bangladesh

Lawyers shout slogans during a protest over the killing of a colleague yesterday in a daylong violence over the arrest of a prominent minority Hindu leader, in Chattogram in southeastern Bangladesh, Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2024. (AP/PTI)

If Chinmoy Krishna Das is a religious preacher and follower of religion, then it is the duty of the entire state, the entire nation, to collectively give him that opportunity. It is the state’s duty to cooperate with Chinmoy Das to practice religion and spread love for religion. However, if Chinmoy Krishna Das wants to implement the agenda of any state, pretends to fulfill the desires of any political party, wants to destroy the communal harmony of the country or wants to destabilize the country through some subtle manipulation, then all evil attempts must be stopped. It is also obligatory for students and the public to stop all evil attempts. Patriotism is an important part of faith. Martyrdom in the desire to save the country is a thousand billion times better than survival. Martyr Abrar Asad has shown that path.

Hindutva is a religion and ISKCON is an organization. There is no reason to think that the Jay Shree Ram slogan, which is the subject of endless debate in India, will be unhindered in Bangladesh. The country’s interests come first. The eight-point movement led by ISKCON for the protection of minorities is very logical. However, it is difficult to reconcile the reasons behind the division of ISKCON and the movement towards Dhaka during the time of the autorickshaw movement, the workers’ movement, the installment loan holders’ movement, the Ansar movement or the Buyad movement, only the implementation of the eight-point demand. The country is heading towards instability.

Beheading Babu Gayareshwar, jailing Nipun, expelling Surendra Kimar Sinha from the country or hacking Biswajit to death – ISKCON was still there then. The minority conviction was also there. Not giving a verbal statement then and now the discussion of destabilizing the country around Chinmoy Das – raises serious doubts. Everyone here has the right to practice any religion, but if it harms the sovereignty and independence of the country, then an attempt will be made to stop it even with the last drop of blood. All the people of the country, regardless of race, religion, or color, will stand on one platform here.

Hindus and Muslims of Bangladesh are brothers. Whose plot, what conspiracy is harming the thousand-year-old harmony – both sides should think about that. India is the only country in the world that does not have good relations with any neighboring country. Even though 97% of its citizens are Sanatan, they are hostile to small Nepal. Not to mention relations with China-Pakistan, Afghanistan. The world does not run on this idea that everything is bad and I am good. Choosing a political party in Bangladesh – will soon reveal itself as a historical mistake of India. Even if the party they are supporting soon gets the power of governance in Bangladesh, India will have to pay the price today or tomorrow for the distance created with the people of Bangladesh. We will have to carry this shame with us all our lives. In bilateral relations between states, no country can take the side of a particular political party. This is a breach of polite diplomatic relations.

ISKCON is a more or less controversial organization all over the world. The current government of Bangladesh is almost fragile. Yet this government has arrested Chinmoy Das without any evidence, ignoring the bloodshot eyes of India and ISKCON? – Even a madman should not believe this. Even then, if someone is wrongfully arrested, the best way to deal with it is through the law and courts. Killing people, besieging courts, beating lawyers or giving ultimatums to judges – these are not in line with wise traditional practices. The mistake that has been made is a historical mistake and ISKCON will have to pay the price for it.

The national poet of Bangladesh named his children Krishna-Mohammed, Arindam-Khaled, yet the country of that poet has repeatedly had to fight against religious norms. The responsibility for this lies not only with Hindus but also with Muslims! The boy who provided relief together with Buddhist monks and spoke about tolerance is no more. The nakedness of atrocities has been seen. Will the nation forgive this tragedy? ISKCON must be confronted by the state. No individual-centric hostility can be shown towards ISKCON. We could not provide mental security to our Hindu brothers and sisters. They did not consider us as their own and we did not stand by them either! This distance in the past is the rift of the present.

In this Bangladesh, Hindus have as much as Muslims. Communal harmony is our thousand-year-old tradition. Creating rifts here will not be right in any way. Whatever is needed to live together must be done collectively. If we do not unite, humanity will not survive. If we show extremism, we too will have to write Train to India again! If we step into any trap, then we are helping domestic and foreign conspiracies win. Maintain maximum tolerance. May this Bangladesh be for the people – in the hope. Our real purpose is not to be educated but to be tolerant people. I do not know if we will ever be tolerant again. No one can tolerate anyone. Everyone rejoices at seeing violence. Our fate is actually not going well.

Hinduism is a religion of peace, but ISKCON is undoubtedly involved in extremist activities. Therefore, a decision will have to be taken regarding ISKCON on the issue of the sovereignty and security of the country. Although this government is weak in political terms, the government has the unwavering support of the largest number of students and people in the country. Therefore, to ensure the interests of the country, harmony of religious beliefs and coexistence, we have to build a steel-strong unity regardless of religion and caste. We are brothers to each other. If someone thinks of someone as an imaginary enemy, the country will suffer. The generation that considers keeping the flag of this country high is more important than life never loses.
