The Maldives government is imposing sanctions against Israeli citizens.

The Maldives government is imposing sanctions against Israeli citizens. The South Asian island state has taken this action against Tel Aviv due to genocide aggression in the Gaza war.

Al Jazeera reported this information on Sunday.

“In a statement, his office spokesman quoted President Mohamed Muizzur, saying: “”The president has pledged to impose sanctions against Israeli passports.”””

It is not known when the ban will be effective.

At the same time, Muizzu has taken initiative to raise funds for the suffering Palestinians. The initiative is called ‘Maldivians in solidarity with the Palestinians’.

In 2023, 11,000 Israeli tourists arrived in Maldives, which is 0.6% of the total tourists.

According to official data, 88% less Israeli tourists came to Maldives than last year’s first four months.

Opposition and allies were pressing Muizzou to take such initiatives as Israeli role in the Gaza war.

After the announcement of the ban, Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman urged the country’s citizens to leave Maldives immediately.

“We advise those Israeli citizens living in Maldives who are in the country quickly to leave this country. Because if you are in danger it will be difficult for us to help,” the spokesperson said.

Along with Maldives, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brunei, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Yemen are also banned.
