Expatriates and prisoners can vote by postal ballot

Expatriate Bangladeshis and sentenced prisoners can vote by postal ballot in the 12th National Parliament election. To vote in the postal ballot, the concerned should apply to the returning officer of their constituency by November 29.

It states that if a person is detained in a jail or in any other legal custody in Bangladesh, a person may vote by postal ballot if he is engaged in any election-related duty at a polling station other than the one where he is entitled to vote.

In this case, application should be made to the concerned returning officer within 15 days of the announcement of the election schedule. He shall apply to the Returning Officer of the constituency in which he is a voter for a ballot paper for the purpose of voting by postal ballot and every such application shall clearly state the voter’s name, address and serial number in the voter’s list.

The Returning Officer shall, on receipt of the application of a voter, forthwith send by post to that voter a postal ballot paper and an envelope bearing a form of Certificate of Posting to show the date, which shall be filled in by the proper officer of the Post Office at the time of delivery by the voter. will be

A voter, after receiving his ballot paper for voting by postal ballot, after recording his vote in the prescribed manner shall send the ballot paper to the Returning Officer by post in an envelope addressed to him with minimum delay.

The Returning Officer will add the results of the ballots received within the prescribed time to the original results and declare the final result. Bangladesh embassies or high commissions located abroad will provide necessary support in this regard.

According to the schedule announced by the EC, the deadline for submission of nomination papers is November 30, selection of nomination papers is from December 1 to 4, filing and disposal of appeals against the decision of the returning officer to the Commission is from December 5 to 15, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 17. The returning officers will allot the symbols on December 18. The election campaign will continue till 8 am on January 5. And the polling will be on January 7 (Sunday).
