Bangladesh is committed to uphold human rights and rule of law

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said Bangladesh is working to ensure economic, social and political justice for all. Bangladesh is committed to uphold human rights and the rule of law.

He said these things at the meeting of the speakers of the Commonwealth countries with the speaker of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, Lindsay Hoyle, on Monday (March 11) afternoon.

‘Let us join hands to build a sustainable, equitable and resilient future for the Commonwealth, a family of nations, unity and diversity.’ Quoting Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech at the Commonwealth Summit held in Ottawa, Canada in 1973, the Speaker reiterated his commitment to work together.

The speaker said Bangladesh is determined to work together to end all forms of discrimination and oppression across the world including the Commonwealth countries.

Earlier, the Speaker participated in the ‘Commonwealth 75 Flag Raising Ceremony’ organized on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Commonwealth at Portcullis House of the House of Commons in London, United Kingdom and recited Maya Angelou’s poem ‘The Rock Cries Out to Us Today’.

Apart from this, the Speaker participated in the Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in London, United Kingdom, in the presence of the royal family and guests. The program was attended by representatives from Commonwealth countries.
