Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

15th August is a bloody black day in the history of Bangladesh. On this day in 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh, was brutally killed by the anti-independence forces of Bangladesh. In recent times, the contempt of that power towards Bangabandhu and the great liberation war has deeply hurt and shocked us. Our hearts are constantly bleeding.

To show our respect and love for the Great Liberation War and our Bangabandhu, on Thursday, August 15, Toronto Film Forum will screen the documentary film ‘Muktir Gan’ directed by Tarek Masood and Catherine Masood at the ‘Multicultural Film Screening Centre’ at 3000 Danforth Avenue at 9:15 pm. will appear. It should be noted that in 1971, Tarek Masud and Catherine Masud made the film from the footage captured by the American filmmaker Lear Levin during the Great Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. This film produced by their tireless efforts of five years is an outstanding document of the liberation war of Bangladesh. Some parts of this film were shot by Mishuk Munir.

The film will be screened to commemorate the liberation war and Bangabandhu on that day, as well as remembering two men who gave hope to Bangladeshi cinema, Tarek Masood and Mishuk Munir. It should be noted that on August 13, 2011, on the way back to Dhaka from the shooting location, a total of five film workers including Tarek Masud – Mishuk Munir lost their lives in a road accident in Manikganj, Bangladesh.

Prior to the screening of the film, there will be a 15-minute silent candlelight vigil at 3000 Danforth Avenue in Toronto to protest the recent incidents of insults and violence against Bangladesh Liberation War and Bangabandhu.

Lamp lighting and film screening will be open to all.
