Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been granted bail in a land corruption case. An Islamabad court granted him this bail on Wednesday (May 15). However, Imran, who was convicted in two other cases, will not be released from jail immediately, said his lawyer.
Cricket-turned-politician Imran Khan and his wife were accused in the corruption case last week. It is said that he took the land as a gift from a housing businessman while he was the prime minister from 2018 to 2022.
Imran claimed that he did not make any mistake regarding the land. After being charged in this case, he applied for bail in the Islamabad High Court.
Imran’s party lawyer Naeem Haider Panjutha confirmed the bail. He also said that Imran is not getting released from jail now. Because he is serving jail term in case of leaking state secret documents and non-Islamic marriage.
71-year-old Imran Khan has been in jail since August last year. He has since been jailed in four cases. However, judgments in two cases have been stayed by the High Court.
Dozens of other cases are still pending against Imran Khan. With bail and sentence suspended from all cases, Imran Khan is unlikely to be released from jail now.
