Burin Peninsula RCMP executes search warrant at residence, man charged with drugs and firearms offences

Forty-three-year-old Joseph Strickland of Marystown is charged with drugs and firearms offences following a search of his residence by Burin Peninsula RCMP.
On Thursday morning, police attended Strickland’s residence following up on a report of stolen property. The described stolen item was observed in plain view on the property and Strickland was arrested. He was in possession of a prohibited weapon and more than $3500.00 in cash. Strickland was held in police custody while officers continued the investigation.
On Friday, police executed search warrants at Strickland’s residence under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Criminal Code of Canada. Officers located and seized a quantity of cocaine, a large amount of illicit cannabis, ammunition and other items consistent with drug trafficking. Strickland is currently on a court order prohibiting him from being in possession of firearms, ammunition and weapons.
Strickland is charged with the following offences:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
- Possession of weapon contrary to order (ammunition)
- Possession of a weapon knowing its possession is unauthorized (ammunition)
- Unauthorized possession of ammunition
- Possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling – Federal Cannabis Act
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to an order.
He appeared in court this morning for a bail hearing and was remanded until tomorrow for a decision.
