The question of whether men and women are equal is often irrelevant. Such debates are frequently sparked with the intent of causing division rather than fostering understanding. Why does this question even arise? Think about it—your mother, wife, and daughter on one side, and the rest of the world on the other. Whom would you choose? Who is more important? The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) emphasized a mother’s status three times before mentioning the father. Isn’t that telling enough? Comparing mothers and fathers is meaningless, as both are essential.
In a democratic society, there is no hierarchy between men and women—no one is inherently superior or inferior. A woman’s vote holds the same value as a man’s. In the words of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, all that is good and meaningful in this world is equally shaped by both men and women. Yet, behind every success of a man, there has always been the inspiration of a woman. And in times of struggle, men have stood by women as their unwavering support. Can one truly progress while leaving the other behind? Impossible. Civilization moves forward on two balanced wheels, where each is the other’s vision and guiding light.
If strength is the measure of superiority, then such a perspective is primitive. If intelligence is the criterion, then remember that every wise man developed his intellect while in his mother’s womb, and every brilliant woman inherited her genetic traits from her father. Men and women are forever intertwined—as mothers and sons, fathers and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives. Any sudden claims of superiority or dominance carry an underlying agenda.
To me, both my mother and father are the greatest. If I must be specific, I will prioritize my mother’s role and sacrifices. I hope my children will cherish, care for, and honor their mother even more than they do me, for as long as she lives. The sacrifices and labor of mothers in giving birth, nurturing, and raising children are unmatched.
Human civilization moves forward on two equal and capable wheels—men and women. If one is considered inferior to the other, society will be crippled. If one is perceived as weaker, the dreams of a nation will fade. Men and women are like two beautiful flowers, each unique in their role and contribution.
In education, skills, and perseverance, individuals sometimes surpass one another, regardless of gender. But any success is a shared achievement. True progress is not about elevating one while holding another back. Humanity is the collective essence of both men and women. The title of “the best of creations” (Ashraf-ul-Makhluqat) is only realized when men and women support and uplift each other.
So, who has the right to claim superiority? There is no such privilege. We are all equal. We all belong to one another. Men and women are not adversaries—they are complementary partners in the journey of life.
Canada stands as a beacon of equality and inclusivity, valuing diversity in every sphere of life. The essence of our nation is built on the belief that men and women, regardless of background, work together as partners to create a just and prosperous society. In Canada, gender equality is not just a principle but a practice, reflected in policies, leadership, and everyday interactions. We recognize that true progress is possible only when every individual—regardless of gender—has equal opportunities to thrive.
