5 Chinese and one Pakistani citizen were killed in a suicide bombing in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The incident took place in Bisham tehsil (upazila) of Shangla district of the province on Tuesday.

Shangla District Police Chief Mohammad Ali Gandapur said a convoy carrying five Chinese nationals left the capital Islamabad for the Dasu hydroelectric project in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. After entering the Bisham area on the way, suddenly a car loaded with explosives entered the fleet. It exploded shortly after entering. The blast caused the car carrying the Chinese nationals to fall into a ditch on the side of the road and caught fire.

The deceased 5 Chinese nationals were passengers in the car, while the driver was a Pakistani national. All were killed, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial police said.

Gandapur said that immediately after the explosion, the provincial police reached there to carry out rescue operations and collect evidence.

Bakht Zaheer, another officer of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial police, told the Pakistani media outlet Dawn, “Investigation has already started to find out from where and how this bomb-laden vehicle entered the Chinese convoy.”

Meanwhile, the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari, Speaker of Parliament National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and other important people of the government of Pakistan have made a statement condemning this attack.

Union Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement, “Enemies have targeted the citizens of Pakistan’s most trusted and close ally.” It is an attack not only on Chinese citizens but also on Pakistan. The government will give a befitting reply to this attack.

Earlier in 2021, a bus carrying Chinese nationals was bombed. Thirteen Chinese were killed in that attack. All of them were engineers and technicians of Dasu hydroelectric project.
